Interviews
60 seconds with…Alan Swinbank, trainer of Collier Hill
Q - What is your best Hamilton Park moment?
A - Winning the Braveheart Stakes with Collier Hill in 2004.
Q - Which race would you most like to win?
A - The Ascot Gold Cup and, over jumps, the Grand National.
Q - Best horse you’ve been involved with?
A - Collier Hill, of course! But I also had a horse called The Froddler who won 17 point-to-points.
Q - Who or what has been the biggest influence on your career?
A - Bill Haigh. I was assistant to him for two years and learned an awful lot.
Q - Which sportsperson do you most admire?
A - Wayne Rooney - a supremely gifted footballer.
Q - Do you have any pet hates?
A - Smoking.
Q - Where is your favourite holiday destination?
A - Barbados.
Q - What do you do to relax?
A - Train horses! It’s a 24/7 occupation.
Q - What is the best thing about your job?
A - Working with talented horses and seeing my staff smile.
Q - And the worst?
A - The days when you lose one of your horses are always difficult to take.
Q - If you could change one thing about racing, or the way racing is run, what would it be?
A - There are too many bad horses in training these days. Punters wants to see good horses run in good races that is what racing is all about.
