Review of season 2009!

Sunday 3 May started of the season with almost 5000 racegoers venturing through the gates that enjoyed a family day of racing and entertainment.  With plenty of free activities for the kids and fine quality racing for those who fancy a flutter, it certainly was a great Sunday bank holiday.

As the meetings quickly passed by, everyone was getting hyped up and excited for the long awaited xfactor concert, which was performed live by JLS, Ruth loernzo and Diana Vickers.  Fans of the finalists gathered around the stage to support their pop idols and kept the spirit alive as they played for a fantastic 90 minutes.

Ladies Night was another fabulous event, with lots of glamorous outfits, hats and fascinators on show for the evening.  Th best dressed ladies competition was a great success and five lucky winners were selected at the end of the night - all delighted to receive such wonderful gifts.

We had hoped to top this off with a night for the gentlemen, but unfortunately due to the weather, we had to abandon our Officer and a Getnelman Evening on Friday 28 August.  All was not lost though as almost 200 guests decided to make a night of it and came along for their hospitality.

Our end of season spectacular was just that!  With the magnificent Bjorn Again performing all the greatest hits from ABBA, Sunday 20 September was a superb afternoon out for all the family.  Our final day of the season was on Monday 21 September and regular racegoers came to the course for one last chance of winning for the season.

It has been an outstanding season and all the team at Hamilton Park racecourse look forward to another great season ahead!

Visitor Attraction Award - Written by Alan Kinnaird from Visit Scotland

Summary

'A very well managed racecourse offering a very enjoyable day out.  Unfortunately the weather had been wet all week and there were sporadic heavy showers throughout the day.  This no doubt had an effect on the visitor numbers but the race course still appeared busy despite the conditions.  Due to the weather a lot of the external catering outlets were closed as there was no demand.  It was good to see the various Theme nights that are coming up.  A Flower of Scotland Family Day is included with plenty for children to do.  These events were well promoted by the stadium announcer throughout the day and the second race of the day was called, 'The Bjorn Again at Hamilton Park in September' Handicap stakes to further advertise the event.  All the best for the remainder of the season.'

Feedback

'The access to the racecourse was well managed with clear directions on the flow of traffic.  Once I had turned around the roundabout the local traffic was seperated from the traffic going to the park at the racecourse.  The marshals were easy to see and they showed visitors exactly where to park.  As I approached the ticket booths the entry fee was clearly displayed.  Once inside the racecourse there was an orientation board which gave a clear layout of the park.  The race guide also gave excellent information covering all the aspects of the days racing.  There is also an information booth if visitors want to talk to someone face to face.  Throughout all the areas the staff were well presented in corporate uniforms.  There was very little litter evident throughout the day and the litter pickers were obviously doing a good job.  I had lunch in the Conservatory Bistro.  The menus were clearly displayed and the service was prompt and attentive.  The tables were kept clean and overall there were excellent standards of cleanliness.  There are a variety of bars to choose from all of which were well run.  It was very difficult to find somewhere to put a drink down in the Panorama bar.  All the tables next to the window were taken.  Maybe on busier days there are additional tables out.  There is an excellent provision of toilets with some in better condition than others but overall they are a very good standard.'
